Beauty From Below

I was tearing through the Canadian Museum of Nature this morning with a 3 year old and my eye caught this in the Earth Gallery. I didn’t catch the name of the rock but after I searched the web, I believe it’s Azurite and Malachite maybe in Copper? Anyway… What amazing colours! What beauty!

  1. Our mineralogy collection manager at @MuseumofNature, Michel Picard says:
“The fibrous velvety blue mineral is CYANOTRICHITE (not azurite) which is an Hydrated Alumino Copper Sulphate. The green layer under the cyanotrichite is indeed MALACHITE, a Copper Carbonate. The collecting locality is: The Maid of Sunshine mine, Gleeson mining district, Arizona.”
